Digital Production Governance: The MES Project for BO.MA
BO.MA is an Italian company specializing in the design and manufacture of adhesive and double-sided tapes, operating in international markets with a primarily B2B focus. Over time, the company’s growth has been accompanied by a strengthening of its production and organizational structure, with an increasingly structured focus on production management and control.
CUSTOMER NEEDS
The evolution of BO.MA’s production processes has highlighted the need for tools capable of managing production execution in a more structured manner.
In particular, the introduction of a new high-capacity coating line – which is highly environmentally sustainable and features an integrated process capable of transforming raw materials directly into finished products – has made it essential to ensure real-time visibility across the various production stages.
In this context, continuous monitoring of operations, the immediate collection of reliable data from machines, and the seamless integration of information throughout the entire line are essential for ensuring comprehensive control of the production process.
BO.MA also needed to automate certain manual tasks, improve the quality of production data, and build a solid technological foundation on which to launch a phased digital transformation process that could eventually be extended to all production lines. Another requirement was compliance with the provisions of the National Transition 4.0 Plan, with a view to achieving increasingly informed and data-driven management.
MES and Advanced Digital Governance: a case study of a connected, efficient and scalable production system
To support its production evolution, beanTech has implemented an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) solution for a new coating line, introducing a structured Digital Governance framework that complies with the Industry Transition 4.0 Plan. The interconnection of the line has enabled real-time collection of production data and continuous monitoring of machine statuses, ensuring full visibility into performance.
A key feature is the automation of production reports: data on reels and meters processed are captured directly by the system, reducing manual tasks and increasing reliability. The MES also guides machines with automated instructions, improving setup times and reducing errors.
The implementation of the MES system has yielded tangible benefits across BO.MA’s production processes:
