Smart Monitoring & IIoT to Turn Data into Operational Efficiency for Pittarc
Pittarc, a Pittini Group company specializing in the production of high-quality welding wire, is a key partner for the mechanical, marine, automotive, and construction industries. Thanks to a highly controlled internal process, it guarantees high performance, complete traceability and compliance with the most rigorous international standards.
CUSTOMER NEEDS
In the steel industry, any change in the process can have a significant impact on quality, timing, and costs.
Pittarc’s goal was therefore to:
- Increase visibility into critical production parameters;
- Transform the data collected into immediately usable insights;
- Provide operators with agile and accessible tools;
- Deploy an open and scalable platform, integrable with both existing systems and future technologies
FROM DATA TO PRODUCTION QUALITY
Discover how Pittarc reduced a critical defect from 64% to 3% and enhanced diagnostic capability thanks to a scalable and user-friendly IIoT platform.
A modular IIoT platform that can be managed directly by the customer, based on Siemens industrial hardware with Industrial Edge and Microsoft Azure cloud.
Together with beanTech, Pittarc designed and implemented this solution, which enabled the company to collect and store data from sensors, PLCs, and heterogeneous IT systems, visualize it in real time on cloud-based dashboards and configure customized alarms and KPIs.
The multi-plant structure and profiled user access improved process visibility, while integration with advanced analytics tools such as Azure Real-Time Analytics, Power BI, and Grafana made it possible to correlate signals and extract operational insights.
The benefits were immediate and measurable:
- Critical defect reduction: from 64% to 3%.
- Real-time monitoring of key parameters, with automatic alerts.
- New KPIs activated, such as equipment efficiency and surface quality indices.
- Enhanced diagnostic capability through correlation of signals from multiple process stages
- Operational autonomy for users, who can configure dashboards, signals, and rules independently.
The web-based, responsive interface can also be used on industrial tablets, enabling simple and mobile-friendly usage.
At Pittarc, we started from the need to introduce a new approach to process improvement, through the collection and analysis of process data that was not yet available or usable.
[…] We chose beanTech as our technology partner because of its proven in similar industrial contexts and the infrastructure solutions it has adopted.
The results were immediately apparent, […] making it possible to intervene in the process before product quality was compromised. The data collection system proved capable of reading from heterogeneous sources and, as a result, making available for analysis a wealth of information that previously could not be correlated.
